SYDNEY – WE’RE COMING…

Sydney friends, at last our national expansion has begun. We’re very excited to have secured a home ground in the Emerald City and will be holding our very first Presentation Night north of the border in August. Don’t think for a minute that we’re not planning on having Francis Leach and our two legendary local guests arrive in a pink helicopter before walking on stage flanked by our very own glamorous, bedazzled Presentation Night-ettes. We’re serious about this expansion, and we know what the good people of Sydney expect…

We’ll come clean with full details next week, but in the meantime rest assured we have one fantastic Sydney footballing legend and one of the city’s finest and most innovative musicians primed, pumped, stoked and chuffed and ready to talk music, footy and life in the harbor city for the very first time.…

GOOD TASTE ROUND…

MerrettMurphy

Tonight’s game between the Western Bulldogs and Brisbane Lions at Etihad Stadium is notable for the fact that it features two men with the best musical tastes* currently running around in the AFL: Bob Murphy & Daniel Merrett . Regardless of the result tonight, we’re looking at it as a small victory for players who don’t list Avicii or Robin Thicke as their current favourite artists. For all your alt-country needs you’d be heading straight to Bob, for an update on the best current releases and next big things, Dan Merrett is your man. Like Natalie Imbruglia, we’ll be a little torn watching tonight (we’ll also be standing an all-white room leaning forlornly against walls as sheer curtains flap about in the background) and wishing both of them all the very best.…

RICHO…

On the very same night we were enjoying the sterling work of Cameron Ling and Paul Dempsey on stage at The Corner Hotel this week, another lower-profile event was underway across town at the Crown Palladium. The AFL’s Hall of Fame committee must have been kicking themselves when they realised the scheduling mix-up that had led to them holding their event on the same night as we were holding our occasional music and footy shindig in Richmond.

I jest of course. Obviously we should have looked at the calendar a little more closely in the lead up to Presentation Night # 3, but somehow I think we were probably always going to appeal to slightly different audiences.…

OH WHAT A NIGHT…

PN3onstageIt was either Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, or us, just then, who made that happy declaration after witnessing Cameron Ling and Paul Dempsey on stage with Francis Leach at the Corner Hotel last night. From Lingy’s revelation that playing one reserves game for Hawthorn led to him being drafted to Geelong, to Paul’s celebratory version of ‘Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again’, the night was another affirmation of the rare (or is it raw?) power of music and football to bring people together. Highlights included Lingy’s tale of Brad Ottens’ trip to the lock-up and Paul’s regret at declining an invitation to dinner with Bruce Springsteen due to (his own) recording commitments.…

TOMMY…

On the weekend just gone, a friend texted me to ask if I was still up for having the kick we’d loosely discussed earlier in the week. ‘I have to run!’ he said ‘I feel like a caged animal.’ As anyone with a passing interest in both the beautiful game of Aussie Rules and the importance of free-range adulthood would understand, I didn’t need to be asked twice. I grabbed my boots, threw them into the car, and headed to our agreed kicking patch – to call it an oval would be stretching things a bit. Nestled between the local bowls club and a synagogue, its uneven surface hosts local dog walkers, amorous teens, families making use of the playground, plus the occasional enthusiasts kicking a ball around.…

SOMETHING FOR CATS…

presNight03_poster_low

We’re over the moon to announce that our next live show will bring together the exceptional talents of Mr Cameron Ling and Mr Paul Dempsey to the stage of  The Corner Hotel on Wednesday June 4th. To have the unofficial mayor of Geelong paired with Australia’s tallest front man is something of a dream come true for us, and we can’t wait.

Cameron Ling, as everyone knows, is a Geelong premiership captain and one of the greatest taggers to ever play the game. He’s also the finest redhead ever to play for the Cats – no mean feat given the quality of amber-haired athletes to have donned the hoops before him.…

OUR NEXT GUESTS…

PresNight_facebookCL

As we’ve mentioned only several times this week, we have a our next live show coming up very soon, and will be announcing dates, details, and most importantly, guests TOMORROW, FRIDAY 2ND MAY. After engaging a Social Media Insight and Strategy Management Consultant on a lucrative three month contract to advise us on the best way to move forward and action our Presentation Night goals, we have been encouraged to build anticipation for our event via our various platforms. This is pretty revolutionary stuff, and certainly, we would never have thought of it otherwise.

‘Build anticipation you say…but how?’ we asked ‘HOW?’.  …

TOP 5 PRESENTATION NIGHT # 1 MOMENTS

FLPKRM3Online lists are big aren’t they? In the modern age where we have so many pressing things to do – such as reading lists online – we are not above getting involved in this kind of thing. Ahead of revealing the line-up for our next show this coming Friday, here are some sweet memories from our first Presentation Night show in July last year starring Paul Kelly, Bob Murphy and our very own Francis Leach.

1. Francis walks on stage to the strains of ‘This Charming Man’ to a rousing reception– the exact point at which it seemed like a show where people talk about music and footy was probably going to work out just like the fantasy sequence we’d been imagining in our heads.…

MUSIC AND FOOTY – THE MUSICAL

MRFLTR Tony

We are VERY excited to blurt out the news that we’ll be announcing the date and details of our very first live show for 2014 this coming Friday the 2nd of May. If you’re unfamiliar with the ‘Presentation Night’ live concept, IT’S OKAY -  that’s why we’re here. Put simply, we take one great footballer with a love of music, a great musician who loves football, and stick them on stage together at The Corner Hotel. We put a couple of those funny headset microphones on their bonces, and let them talk about footy, music and life for a couple of glorious hours.…
